Aoba is named after the 16th-century town and castle of Shogun Masumune Date, still standing in the hometown of sushi chef and owner TJ (The town is now called Sendai.). That traditionalism guides the restaurant. The interior showcases Japanese minimalism. The chef sticks to traditional sushi rolls plus a few fancy ones such as the volcano and dynamite rolls. Traditional entrees are also served, such as tempura, teriyaki dishes and katsu (deep fried chicken or pork on rice). Try the Yokubari dessert -- a combo of ice cream, banana tempura and fried cheese cake.
